OS/2 may mark the maturation of the desktop interface.
It is a private-cloud application platform with a web-based desktop interface.
So handheld interfaces are more strictly limited to 2D than a desktop interface.
The issue I see is mixing the traditional desktop interface with that of a metro style interface.
Microsoft can obviously deliver the desktop interface for its pool of supporters, but they have so far struck out on the tablet side.
Of course, Windows 8 still offers classic desktop interface.
I have been using the same desktop interface while Microsoft has made a number of disruptive changes to their interfaces.
It provided most standard statistical methods accessed through its own desktop interface.
But it isn't optimal for a desktop interface.
What I have a big issue with is the desktop interface.
