Damage to the deep fibular nerve can result in foot drop.

It runs with the lateral terminal branch of deep fibular nerve.

Damage to the deep fibular nerve, as is possible with traumatic injury to the lateral knee, results in foot drop.

The deep fibular nerve is also subject to injury resulting from lower motor neuron disease, diabetes, ischemia, and infectious or inflammatory conditions.

The sciatic nerve branches into the deep fibular nerve and the tibial nerve.

The anterior compartment of the leg is supplied by the deep fibular nerve (deep peroneal nerve).

Nerve supply: lateral terminal branch of Deep Peroneal Nerve (deep fibular nerve) (proximal sciatic branches S1,S2).

Dorsal digital nerves of foot are branches of the intermediate dorsal cutaneous nerve, medial dorsal cutaneous nerve, sural nerve and deep fibular nerve.

The tibial nerve goes on to innervate all muscles of the foot except the extensor digitorum brevis and the extensor hallucis brevis (which are innervated by the deep fibular nerve).

It is innervated by the deep fibular nerve, unlike the other peroneal muscles which are innervated by the superficial fibular nerve, since the peroneus tertius is a member of the anterior compartment.

In the surgical treatment of deep fibular nerve entrapment in the foot, a ligament from the extensor digitorum brevis muscle that crosses over the deep peroneal nerve, putting pressure on it and causing pain, is released.

In the leg, the deep fibular nerve supplies muscular branches to the tibialis anterior, extensor digitorum longus, fibularis (peroneus) tertius, and extensor hallucis longus (propius), and an articular branch to the ankle-joint.

The deep fibular nerve from the common fibular nerve provides the sensory innervation of the skin between the first and second toes and the motor innervation of the muscles of the anterior compartment of the leg and dorsal foot.

After its bifurcation past the ankle joint, the lateral branch of the deep fibular nerve innervates the extensor digitorum brevis and the extensor hallucis brevis, while the medial branch goes on to provide cutaneous innervation to the webbing between the first and second digits.
