To the Editor: Your editorial on Appalachian mining is rich in hyperbole ("Decapitating Appalachia," Jan. 13).

In the "Judith Decapitating Holofernes," from a Naples museum, Artemisia inverts the sinister triangle of "Susanna."

He said that the work itself was not about violence or cruelty, and that the killing and decapitating of the frog was not done as part of the work or in view of the spectator.

He is shown to be merciless when it comes to getting what he wants, going as far as to fake the decapitating of Akemi's son in an attempt to get Jin to give him Kanzaki's pendant.
