The Chihuahuan Raven, a much larger and very different bird, is the only crow it commonly occurs alongside.

One million years ago, a group from the California clade evolved into a new species, the Chihuahuan Raven.

Chihuahuan Raven, formerly known as "American White-necked Raven"

There are five corvids, including the Black-billed Magpie, Pinyon Jay, American Crow, and Common Raven, as well as the more local Chihuahuan Raven.

Like the Chihuahuan Raven it is one of the smaller species (47 cm in length), in fact it is about the same size as a Carrion Crow but with a much thicker bill, shorter tail and much larger wings.

The Chihuahuan Raven occurs in the Southwestern and Midwestern United States and northern Mexico, including southeastern Arizona, southern New Mexico, southeastern Colorado, western Kansas, western Oklahoma, and southern and western Texas.
