It covers orodental diseases, preventive and community dentistry, oral pathology, and dentofacial orthopedics.

The community dentistry department organize and conducts outreach programs and symposia, which cover the health centers and other community service centers and facilities.

Services include district nursing, health visiting, specialist nursing, school nursing, family planning, sexual health, HIV services, haemoglobinopathies, community dentistry, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, dietetics, rehabilitation services and services for people with learning disabilities.

"Contrary to popular opinion, it is very clear that women have a lower pain threshold and tolerance than men," says Roger Fillingim, PhD, a pain expert and professor of community dentistry and behavioral science at the University of Florida, in Gainesville.

Dr. Steven M. Levy, a professor in the department of preventive and community dentistry at the University of Iowa, also said he was concerned about the disparities among racial and income groups revealed in the report, released this summer, but he said he saw some improvements as well.
