The prehensile-tailed porcupines or coendous (genus Coendou) are a group of arboreal porcupine found in Central and South America.

Other small to medium sized mammals present include the agouti, the paca, the prehensile-tailed porcupine, the Nine-banded Armadillo and a few species of opossum.

New World porcupines of the genera Coendou and Chaetomys have fully prehensile tails that help them to climb and prevent them from falling from trees.
