Gold-striped salamander (Chioglossa lusitanica)

The gold-striped salamander, golden-striped salamander, saramaganta or píntega rabilonga (Chioglossa lusitanica) is a species of salamander in the Salamandridae family.

Also important to highlight is the Gold-Striped Salamander (Chioglossa lusitanica) a species endemic to the northwest Iberian peninsula, typically associated with mountainous areas with elevated precipitation.

Stream-dwelling salamanders, such as Caucasian Salamander or Gold-striped salamander have very slender, long bodies, perfectly adapted to life at the banks of fast small rivers and mountain brooks.

In spite of external similarity with Luschan's salamander (protuberance on the tail), molecular data suggest the closest relative of M. caucasica is the gold-striped salamander (Chioglossa lusitanica) from the north-western Iberian Peninsula.

These areas include important spaces for the conservation of Iberian Emerald Lizard (Lacerta schreiberi) and particularly the Gold-Striped Salamander (Chioglossa lusitanica), also known as an area of elevated genetic diversity and major vulnerability.
