The dragon did a doubletake and popped into a blind eel.

Blind eels, their sinuous bodies covered by iridescent scales, swam away in alarm.

It is commonly, but incorrectly, called "congo snake", "conger eel" or the "blind eel".

The surrounding area was an important mahinga kai, a source of plentiful food, especially tuere (blind eel) and kanakana (lamprey).
