Leptosphaeria submaculans Holm on Sisymbrium, Berteroa, and Erysimum has distinctively enlarged ascospores.

Its common names include hoary alyssum, false hoary madwort, hoary berteroa, and hoary alison.

The genus Berteroa is named after Carlo Berteroa Bertero.

The larvae feed on Arctium, Berteroa, Bromus, Erysimum, Marrubium vulgare, Onopordum, Salvia, Secale, Stachys officinalis and Xeranthemum species.
