anterior tibial artery

The compartment of the leg is supplied by anterior tibial artery.

The branches of the anterior tibial artery are:

Communication branch to anterior tibial artery.

The proximal head and the epiphysis are supplied by a branch of the anterior tibial artery.

It arises from the anterior tibial artery, as soon as that vessel has passed through the interosseous space.

It arises at the anterior aspect of the ankle joint and is a continuation of the anterior tibial artery.

The termination of the popliteal artery is its bifurcation into the anterior tibial artery and posterior tibial artery.

Its proximal and distal arterial supply consists of perforating branches of the anterior tibial artery and fibular artery.

Like most deep veins in legs, anterior tibial veins are accompanied by the homonym artery, the anterior tibial artery, along its course.

It lies at first on the lateral side of the anterior tibial artery, then in front of it, and again on its lateral side at the ankle-joint.

The tibia derives its arterial blood supply from two sources: A nutrient artery, as the main source, and periosteal vessels derived from the anterior tibial artery.

The anterior tibial artery of the lower limb carries blood to the anterior compartment of the leg and dorsal surface of the foot, from the popliteal artery.

Tibial-fibular trunk, also tibial-peroneal trunk is the posterior tibial artery distal to the origin of the anterior tibial artery and proximal to the origin of the fibular artery.

Therefore, the posterior tibial artery proximal to the fibular artery origin is sometimes called the tibial-peroneal trunk or tibial-fibular trunk and it could be said that the popliteal artery bifurates into the tibial-fibular trunk and anterior tibial artery.

The structures of anterior compartment can be remembered using the mnemonic, "TEA DEPt" for Tibialis anterior, Extensor hallucis longus, Anterior tibial artery, Deep peroneal nerve, Extensor digitorum longus and Peroneus tertius.
