Most often associated with fractures of the anterior cranial fossa.

It is located in the anterior cranial fossa.

A combined craniofacial approach, including resection of the floor of the anterior cranial fossa is used with success in selected patients.

The middle fossa, deeper than the anterior cranial fossa, is narrow medially and widens laterally to the sides of the skull.

The anterior cranial fossa is a depression in the floor of the cranial vault which houses the projecting frontal lobes of the brain.

Anterior cranial fossa (fossa cranii anterior)

The main elements of metopic suture closure are a low volume of the anterior cranial fossa, the metopic ridging and hypotelorism.

This artery supplies the posterior ethmoidal air sinuses, dura mater of the anterior cranial fossa, and the upper part of the nasal mucosa of the nasal septum.

Tumor invades any of the following: anterior orbital contents, skin of nose or cheek, minimal extension to anterior cranial fossa, pterygoid plates, or sphenoid or frontal sinuses.

Other areas more susceptible to fractures are the cribriform plate, the roof of orbits in the anterior cranial fossa, and the areas between the mastoid and dural sinuses in the posterior cranial fossa.

Destruction of the base of skull (i.e., anterior cranial fossa), cavernous sinus, or the pterygoid process; infiltration of the mucous membranes of the nasopharynx; or nonresectable lymph node metastases are relative contraindications to surgery.
