Bernier's Teal or Madagascar Teal (Anas bernieri)

Bernier's Teal Anas bernieri (also known as Madagascar Teal) is a duck species of the genus Anas.

It is a walk-through exhibit housing various species of African birds including superb starlings, Von der Decken's hornbills, Bernier's teals, Abdim's storks, blue-bellied rollers and lilac-breasted rollers.

Its closest relative is probably Bernier's Teal from Madagascar and, apart from having stronger wings and being considerably bigger (between a Sunda Teal and a Mallard in size), it seems to have looked very similar to that species.

Currently the Madagascar Teal is on the verge of extinction.

Bernier's Teal Anas bernieri (also known as Madagascar Teal) is a duck species of the genus Anas.

Collared lemurs, mongoose lemurs, sifaka, Madagascar teal and radiated tortoise are also on show, and were brought into the collection especially for Madagascar.

In the Menabe region of Madagascar, a biodiversity hotspot of great importance, the Trust is working with a cluster of endangered species, including the Malagasy Giant Rat, Flat-tailed Tortoise, Madagascar Big-headed Turtle, Narrow-striped Mongoose and Madagascar Teal.
