In 1941 the organization changed its name from "Air Hygiene Foundation" to "Industrial Hygiene Foundation."

The Industrial Hygiene Foundation of America, originally named the Air Hygiene Foundation and also called the Industrial Health Foundation, is a business trade organization concerned with occupational health in industrial businesses.

Furthermore, an outlying location of the Umweltbundesamt ("Federal Environment Office") is found in the town, which grew out of the former Institute for Water, Soil and Air Hygiene (Institut für Wasser-, Boden- und Lufthygiene, or WaBoLu).
