Going Beyond Tradition Mr. Streets, 42 years old, is the pastor of the Mount Aery Baptist Church in Bridgeport and an adjunct professor of pastoral theology at the Yale Divinity School.

And Mr. Lieberman showed up at the Mount Aery Church in the downtown section of Bridgeport, and repeated his assertion that Mr. Weicker, as a maverick in the Senate, served only his own agenda.

Mr. Streets has been breaking ground in urban ministry since he graduated from Yale Divinity School in 1975, said Mr. Schmidt, who called Mount Aery "one of the most vital urban congregations in the Northeast."

Seven years later Mount Aery moved into a new, $1.2 million building; it, too, developed a housing program and day-care center, became home to a Head Start program, and founded the first AIDS outreach service in Fairfield County.
