The Aeroscope was known for its simplicity and reliability.

The Aeroscope was a compressed air camera designed by Prószyński, one that proved reliable and popular.

As several of the cameramen died filming from the firing lines Aeroscope got a name of camera of death.

Prószyński later constructed the first hand held camera called an Aeroscope, the first compressed air camera, that could be hand-held.

Filming with Aeroscope the cameraman did not have to turn the crank, as in all cameras of that time, so he had both hands on the camera to operate.

(Prószyński was also a pioneering camera inventor, developing a model called a pleograph in 1894, and a handheld effort called an aeroscope in 1909.)

However, even by the beginning of World War II, some of the improved Aeroscope cameras were in use by the British combat cameramen.

Patented in England in 1910 by the Polish inventor Kazimierz Prószyński, Aeroscope was the first successful hand-held operated film camera.
