acute interstitial nephritis

A single case of acute interstitial nephritis has been reported.

Acute interstitial nephritis and nephrotic syndrome have been reported but evidence of chronic nephropathy is lacking.

Acute interstitial nephritis may be more severe and more likely to lead to long-term or permanent kidney damage in elderly people.

In rare cases, PPI use may cause 'idiosyncratic' reactions, such as erythema multiforme, pancreatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and acute interstitial nephritis.

Common causes of each are glomerulonephritis, acute tubular necrosis (ATN), and acute interstitial nephritis (AIN), respectively.
