Turcopole

The personal attendants of the Grand Master of the Temple included a turcopole - possibly as an interpreter or orderly.

Some Byzantine turcopole units accompanied the First Crusade and may have provided a model for the subsequent employment of indigenous auxiliary light horse in the crusader states.

It was the first battle between the Serbs and Turks, an earlier battle in Gallipoli was fought between troops sent by King Milutin and Turcopole Halil Pasha (1312).

They had the most experience of fighting in the East, were arguably the most disciplined, and were the only formations which included Turcopole cavalry who fought like the Turkish horse archers of the Ayyubid army.

As is typical of the terse manner of the original rulebooks, little more is said about the cleric class, though since the followers gained when creating a stronghold include "Turcopole"-type horsed crossbowmen, there is already a hint of the crusades as an inspiration, as seemingly later confirmed by Len Lakofka.
