Lake of Stars was given the Malawian Tourism Award for services to tourism in Malawi.

It is the only tour of its kind in the south and received a Rural Tourism Award in 1999.

The preserve, which recently won the Governor's Environmental Tourism Award, is home to 22 timber, Arctic and tundra wolves, all a variety of gray wolf.
