Saint Francis

A workshop painting, perhaps assignable to a slightly later period, is the Maestà with Saints Francis and Dominic now at the Uffizi.

The second vestibule has a statues of Saints Francis Xavier and Charles Borromeo by Stefano Maderno.

He afterwards painted a Holy Family with Saints Francis, Catharine, & Lucia for the church of La Pieta.

He completed a painting of Saints Francis and John the Baptist with Prophet Daniel for the Duomo in Pordenone.

The altarpiece of the Madonna with Child and Saints Francis and Jacob (c. 1687) was completed by Carlo Maratta.

And Christus' Virgin and Child Enthroned with Saints Francis and Jerome in Frankfurt, seemingly dated 1457 (the third digit is illegible), is the first known Northern picture to demonstrate accurate linear perspective.

Just a few yards along the road in the Piaristenkirche, there are further reminders that Austria was the home of the Counter-Reformation with paintings and statues of Saints Francis Xavier, Ignatius de Loyola and John Nepomuk of Prague.
