Sacred Heart fathers

It is now almost 22 years since I entered the community of Sacred Heart Fathers.

We live and work with three priests from an order known as The Sacred Heart Fathers.

St. Anthony was established as a Boys school in 1848 by the Sacred Heart Fathers.

The Sacred Heart Fathers have staffed and administered the school since its beginning in La Verne.

In 1957 the Sacred Heart Fathers built a new chapel on the former tennis courts to sit 150 boys, holding seven separate oratories and a spacious sacristry.

The friars left on 10 January 1981 and the Sacred Heart Fathers and Brothers of Bétharram took over the running of the parish.

Even older, the Law School was established in 1894 as an independent college by the Sacred Heart Fathers, and was later incorporated into the University (since both were units of the Roman Catholic Church).

It was bought for £20,000 in 1949 for use by the Sacred Heart Fathers as a junior seminary, opening with students moved from outgrown premises in Earl Shilton and 40 new students from elsewhere.

In 1950, Msgr. Sweeney approved the assignment by the Provincial Superior of the Sacred Hearts Fathers of Father Maurice Coopman, SS.CC., as the pastor of Saint Anthony parish.
