The Madras treeshrew is found on the Indian Subcontinent south of the Ganges River.

The Madras treeshrew (Anathana ellioti), also known as the Indian treeshrew is a species of treeshrew in the monotypic genus Anathana found in the hill forests of central and southern India.

He catalogued the mammals of southern India in the Madras Journal of Literature and Science and described several new species of small mammals including the rat species Golunda ellioti and the Madras Tree-Shrew Anathana ellioti that are named after him.
