Lyman-alpha blobs

Lyman-alpha Blobs may hold valuable clues to determine how galaxies are formed.

The most famous Lyman-alpha blobs were discovered in 2000 by Steidel et al.

This object is made up of lyman-break galaxies and large gas bubbles, such as lyman-alpha blobs, lyman-alpha emitters, gaseous filaments.

In 2006, scientists announced the discovery of three filaments aligned to form one of the largest structures known to humanity, composed of densely packed galaxies and enormous blobs of gas known as Lyman-alpha blobs.
