K-type main-sequence star

Orange dwarf stars, or K-type main-sequence stars, may be candidates for supporting extraterrestrial life.

The primary companion (Gliese 86 A) is a K-type main-sequence star of spectral type K1V.

Gliese 86 (13 G. Eridani) is a K-type main-sequence star approximately 35 light-years away in the constellation of Eridanus.

Alpha Centauri Bb is an extrasolar planet orbiting the K-type main-sequence star Alpha Centauri B, located 4.37 light-years from Earth in the southern constellation of Centaurus.

The estimated surface temperature is 5,084 K. With a stellar classification of K2 V, it is the second-nearest K-type main-sequence star after Alpha Centauri B. Indeed, since 1943, the spectrum of this star has served as one of the stable anchor points by which other stars are classified.
