Hudibrastic

Jonathan Swift would use the Hudibrastic form almost exclusively for his poetry.

Samuel Butler's Hudibras lies behind the term "hudibrastic" style; he used doggerel for satirical purposes:

After 1672 and Samuel Butler's Hudibras, iambic tetrameter couplets with unusual or unexpected rhymes became known as Hudibrastic verse.

But - as his books have been insisting for more than 30 years now - domestic realism is a style as contrived and conventional as that of the Hudibrastic couplet.

At this time, he formed the acquaintance of Benjamin Douglas Perkins, patentee of the metallic tractors (see Elisha Perkins) which Fessenden advertised in a poem in Hudibrastic verse.
