Hilda family

Hilda gives its name to an asteroid group called the Hilda family (or Hildas for short).

These data are consistent with a progenitor from the Hilda family or a Jupiter Trojan.

Hilda family are in a 2:3 Orbital resonance with Jupiter; that is, they go around the Sun three times for every two Jupiter orbits.

The Hilda family orbit between 3.5 and 4.2 AU, and have relatively circular orbits and a stable 3:2 orbital resonance with Jupiter.

Besides numerous main belt asteroids she also discovered Mars-crosser asteroid 9671 Hemera and Hilda family asteroid 21804 Václavneumann.

At aphelion Hygiea reaches out to the extreme edge of the asteroid belt at the perihelia of the Hilda family which is in 3:2 resonance with Jupiter.

A large number of planetesimals would have also been captured in the outer asteroid belt, at distances greater than 2.6 AU, and in the region of the Hilda family.
