Furious Fifties

As a sailor you want to go south, the Roaring Forties and Furious Fifties, where the waves are big and well spaced.

Similar but stronger conditions occur in more southerly latitudes and are referred to as the Furious Fifties and Shrieking or Screaming Sixties.

The journey from the port to Europe was eastwards in the Roaring Forties and Furious Fifties via Cape Horn.

There's no problem getting warmed up, however, on modern treadmills, steppers and bikes, as albatross soar on the Furious Fifties winds that buffet the land at the "end of the world."
