Mielikki is the Finnish goddess of forests and the hunt.

Kalma is the Finnish goddess of death and decay, with her name meaning "The Stench of Corpses".

Vammatar is the Finnish goddess of pain, disease, and/or suffering (other versions have her as more actively negative, the goddess of evil and misfortune).

The album is named for the Finnish goddess of air Ilmatar who, according to the creation story in the Kalevala, creates the world from two eggs from the eagle Kokko (which is also the name of an earlier Värttinä album).
