Esc key

Apart from pressing the space bar, the only control available to the player is to press the Esc key and quit the game.

While the Esc key often does escape, Pause seldom pauses.

However, there is frequently a mechanism, such as the Esc key, to disable the splash screen and view the messages.

A common application today of the Esc key is as a shortcut key for the Stop button in many web browsers.

A user could hold down the ESC key upon bootup, to disable the card for speed sensitive applications.

The Esc key may be pressed at any time to provide a menu of additional facilities such as the talker, messaging systems, personal profile and settings.

Another use for the Esc key, in combination with the Command key, is switching to Front Row, if installed.

An escape character is usually assigned to the Esc key on a computer keyboard, and can be sent in other ways than as part of an escape sequence.

Pentadactyl deals with such cases by providing a special "pass-through" mode, which passes all the key press events (except for Esc key) directly to the site.

The esc key is located to the left of the 1 key; the tilde key normally found there is at the right end of the same row.

The console is normally accessed by pressing the backtick key ' (frequently also called the key; normally located below the ESC key) on QWERTY keyboards or the 2 on AZERTY keyboards, and is usually hidden by default.
