Easter rituals

For many, half the joy of celebrating Easter rituals comes from knowing they will be celebrated for years to come, in the same church, before the same altar.

Many Yaqui have combined such ideas with their practice of Catholicism, and believe that the existence of the world depends on their annual performance of the Lenten and Easter rituals.

Gorze was also the home of the "chant messin", an early form of Gregorian chant or plainsong, as a part of the liturgy, and also of sacred drama, particularly in connection with the Easter rituals.

Often used for Ukrainian Orthodox graveside and Easter rituals, and believed by some to have talismanic powers, the pysanka consists of an emptied-out eggshell decorated with intricate geometric patterns, which are applied using a batiklike wax-resist technique.

Folkloristic and religious events include the commemoration-day of St. Cyrus and Easter-period when the Medieval-rooted confraternal religious orders perform their processions during the days of the Holy Week (Easter rituals include procession and pilgrimage of confrères called "Bubbli-Bubbli" through the streets of town).
