The West Caucasian tur appears to be more closely related to the wild goat than to the East Caucasian tur.

The national park is home to the rare East Caucasian Tur, a mountain dwelling goat antelope found only in the eastern half of the Caucasus Mountains.

The East Caucasian tur (Capra cylindricornis) is a mountain-dwelling goat-antelope found only in the eastern half of the Greater Caucasus mountains.

The western edge of the range of the East Caucasian tur remains unclear as it overlaps with that of West Caucasian tur (Capra caucasica).
