Faced with this data I have launched an inquiry by the Directorate-General for Energy and Transport.

I called on the European Commission's Directorate-General for Energy and Transport to provide an opportunity to see the document.

When the Directorate-General for Energy and Transport began preparing a document such as this, energy was not on the Johannesburg agenda.

I fully agree with what has been said here, since the Directorate-General for Energy and Transport is concerned with regulating the activity time of drivers outside driving time, for safety reasons.

This report was sent to the Chairman of Parliament's Committee on Transport and Tourism. It is available on the website of the Directorate-General for Energy and Transport.

With the national action plans, I would like to hope that the Directorate-General for Energy and Transport has enough staff, or is able to recruit enough staff, to deal with, monitor and implement the issues.

In my trans-European networks budget and the budget of the Directorate-General for Energy and Transport in general, we have resources for monitoring pilot schemes, particularly through Civitas, which you are familiar with.

Energy then became the hot issue, or one of the hot issues, on the Johannesburg agenda, but we in the Directorate-General for Energy and Transport had already been working on it and I must say that I personally pushed for this approach.
