Cullen's sign

Cullen's sign can indicate a ruptured ectopic pregnancy.

Cullen's sign is superficial edema and bruising in the subcutaneous fatty tissue around the umbilicus.

Bleeding into the abdominal cavity can cause the classical bruising patterns of Grey Turner's sign or Cullen's sign.

It may be accompanied by Cullen's sign, which may then be indicative of pancreatic necrosis with retroperitoneal or intraabdominal bleeding.

Cullen's sign, a discoloration of the skin about the navel which is regarded as a sign of a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, is named for him.
