Biogeographically, the Falkland Islands are classified as part of the Antarctic ecozone and Antarctic Floristic Kingdom.

The Antarctic ecozone and Antarctic Floristic Kingdom include most of the subantarctic islands native biota, with many endemic genera and species of flora and fauna.

The Antarctic Floristic Kingdom is a classification in phytogeography, different than the Antarctic ecozone classification in biogeography, and than Antarctic flora genera/species classifications in botany.

The Antarctic ecozone includes the continent of Antarctica, and various islands in the Southern Ocean, South Atlantic and the southern Indian Ocean, such as South Georgia and the Kerguelan Islands.
