On examination Mees' lines were present in the finger nails and there was hyperkeratosis of the soles of the feet.

Mees' lines or Aldrich-Mees' lines, also called leukonychia striata, are lines of discoloration across the nails of the fingers and toes.

White lines across the nail (leukonychia striata, or transverse leukonychia) may be Mees' lines or Muehrcke's lines.

Discoloration, thinning, thickening, brittleness, splitting, grooves, Mees' lines, small white spots, receded lunula, clubbing (convex), flatness, spooning (concave) can indicate illness in other areas of the body, nutrient deficiencies, drug reaction or poisoning, or merely local injury.
