Act of Oblivion

At the Restoration his exclusion from the Act of Oblivion was rejected by a small majority.

In 1660 at the restoration of the monarchy he was excluded from the general pardon granted under the Act of Oblivion and fled abroad.

After a short while he was again imprisoned, in Newgate, where he remained until amnestied by the 1652 Act of Oblivion.

A year after his death, the Act of Oblivion exempted Andrewes from pardon in respect of his lands, goods, and all rights of properties.

He was specially exempted from the act of oblivion proposed to parliament; but on 10 Nov. he obtained his liberty on condition that he should appear for trial when called upon.

In its editorial, the newspaper commented that an amnesty was appropriate when rebels had lost the desire to continue the struggle with the Government, and in return for the act of oblivion, were willing to become again law-abiding citizen.

In the Act of Oblivion on 18 April 1810, the National Council completely eradicated clan retaliation from Cherokee law, repudiated matrilineal inheritance, and referred to husbands/fathers in the Nation as the heads of household.

That same year, chiefs of the seven clans, plus Black Horse as chief and Pathkiller as his assistant, signed the Act of Oblivion on September 11, 1808, which ended the traditional clan blood law requiring vengeance killings.

In addition, there was to be an Act of Oblivion, or amnesty for all acts committed during the 1641 rebellion and Confederate wars - in particular the killings of British Protestant settlers in 1641 - combined with no disbanding of the Confederate armies.

WHEREFORE, instead of gazing at each other with suspicious or doubtful curiosity; let each of us, hold out to his neighbour the hearty hand of friendship, and unite in drawing a line, which, like an act of oblivion shall bury in forgetfulness every former dissension.

At the restoration of the monarchy, because of his act of regicide he was a named exception in the general pardon (Act of Oblivion, section XXXVIII), which meant that any property that was held by the beneficiaries of his estate, could be confiscated.
